4 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING GOLD JEWELRY

Auvere’s Golden Rules

Buying a piece of gold jewelry is a little bit like buying a work of art — it is a process that is both emotional and practical. From an emotional point of view, shopping for jewelry is about finding a piece that moves you. From a practical point of view, however, there are a few things to consider when buying gold jewelry that may help you to make the right choice.

GOLDEN RULE #1: CONSIDER SHOPPING FOR FINE JEWELRY ONLINE

Auvere is a fine jewelry brand without the typical fine jewelry brand prices. How do we do it? Auvere sells directly to our customers via our website. As a result, we are able to remove the traditional intermediary markup of 150 to 300%. This does not mean that our jewelry is inexpensive. We work with high karat gold, which means that our pieces possess high intrinsic value. More gold per item of jewelry plus the elimination of high middleman markups equals high karat gold jewelry at prices that are often less than similar pieces crafted from 14 karat gold and 18 karat gold sold in retail stores.

Buying jewelry is a very intimate and personal experience. While more people buy fine jewelry online each year, buying fine jewelry directly from a website still makes many jewelry lovers a bit nervous. To alleviate some of that fear, we explain our processes and policies here and here. Moreover, we encourage our customers to contact our customer service team at 866-317-7779 or at support@auvere.com to obtain even more detailed answers to frequently asked questions.

GOLDEN RULE #2: CONSIDER BUYING JEWELRY THAT RETAINS ITS VALUE OVER TIME

While there are many things to consider when buying gold jewelry, we prefer to buy pieces that hold their value over time. For us, this means purchasing high karat gold jewelry. Why do we think this is important? Because gold is money. Read more about the case for high karat gold here.

GOLDEN RULE #3: CONSIDER LEARNING MORE ABOUT GOLD RATES BEFORE BUYING

There are several rates of gold jewelry in the marketplace today, from gold plated jewelry all the way up to pure and unadulterated 24 karat gold jewelry. Auvere’s gold jewelry is handcrafted from 22 karat gold and 24 karat gold. It is important to note that we DO NOT make gold plated or vermeil jewelry. We make solid gold jewelry using true 22 karat gold and pure 24 karat gold. We use the highest rates of gold not only because we think they are beautiful, but because true high karat gold increases in value over time (see Golden Rule #2).

Even though humans have been making 22 karat gold jewelry and 24 karat gold jewelry thousands of years, many people still believe that it is impossible to create wearable jewelry from these purer forms of gold. Let’s explain further.

22 karat gold is 91.8% pure gold. We mix our 22 karat gold with 4.2% pure silver, 3.2% copper and .8% zinc. This alloy mix allows 22 karat gold to be quite durable and sturdy enough for everyday wear.

24 karat gold contains 99.99% pure gold. While 24 karat gold is strong enough to use for jewelry (including gemstone jewelry), we do not recommend 24 karat gold jewelry for daily wear unless one is prepared to love and accept the scratches that pure gold jewelry will inevitably sustain.

24 karat gold jewelry contains no alloys whatsoever and is completely hypoallergenic as a result. The characteristic that makes pure gold so unique and special is the same characteristic that makes it vulnerable to scratches, dings and dents if worn on a daily basis. Aficionados of 24 karat gold jewelry view it’s softness as a sign of purity and a positive aspect of owning pure gold jewelry; however, we recommend that people who are new to 24 karat gold jewelry consider carefully whether this rate of gold is right for them.

GOLDEN RULE #4: CONSIDER IMPORTANT CARE TIPS FOR HIGH KARAT GOLD JEWELRY

As with any luxury item you own, taking proper care of it will not only prolong its life but also its look. Read below for a few tips that will keep your 22 and 24 karat gold jewelry shining brightly:

  • Limit direct exposure to alcohol based liquids, including perfume, hand lotion and hand sanitizer.
  • Remove your jewelry before your workouts. Sweat tends to soil your jewelry and dull its shine.
  • Remove your jewelry before a swim in order to minimize exposing your jewelry to chlorine.
  • Separate your jewelry when you take it off for the day. By doing so, you will reduce scratches and tangled chains.
