Care
CARING FOR GOLD
Gold rewards a few simple habits. Remove your pieces before washing your hands, applying lotion or perfume, or beginning a workout — soaps, fragrances, and perspiration each leave a residue over time. The same caution applies to swimming pools and hot tubs, where chlorine is particularly unkind to gold, and to household cleaning products, which often share the same chemistry. When your jewelry is not being worn, give each piece its own quiet place to rest, with the clasp fastened and stored apart from other metals, so that no two surfaces can meet to scratch or tangle.
CARING FOR SILVER
Silver asks a little more than gold, and is no less rewarding for it. Remove your pieces before cleaning, exercising, showering, or swimming, and keep them away from cosmetics, bleach, and other household chemicals — silver reacts naturally with chlorine, sulfur, salty air, humidity, and perspiration, each of which hastens tarnish. Auvere silver is handcrafted from a tarnish-resistant alloy and finished with rhodium plating; these measures slow tarnish considerably, though no silver is entirely immune to it. When tarnish appears, a soft polishing cloth will restore the shine; for a deeper clean, wash the piece in warm water with a gentle, non-abrasive soap, then dry and polish. Between wearings, store your silver in a cool, dry, dark place, where the air itself can do the least.
CARING FOR GEMSTONES
Gemstones vary in hardness and porosity, and a few precautions serve them all. Keep your pieces away from hard or abrasive surfaces — even a diamond will chip under sufficient impact — and away from extreme temperatures, perfumes, cosmetics, household chemicals, and ultrasonic cleaners. Diamonds and rubies are durable enough to be cleaned with a soft toothbrush and warm water with a mild dish soap. Turquoise, more porous and more delicate, prefers only a soft cloth dampened with warm water; it should never be submerged or exposed to soaps or chemicals. Whatever the stone, dry each piece fully before wearing or storing it.
THE NATURE OF AUVERE GOLD
A word on the metal itself. Auvere works in 18, 20, 22, and 24 karat gold — higher karats than most fine jewelry, and richer for it. The higher the karat, the warmer the color, the more honest the weight, the more the metal yields to the wearer rather than the other way around. We chose this range for what it offers, and we ask only that you wear your pieces with awareness of their character. Higher-karat gold is also softer gold, and the same quality that makes it a pleasure to wear deserves care in return.
