EARRING STACKS

Earscape Ideas

One of the best ways to personalize your sartorial style is to stack your jewelry. Most of us are comfortable with stacking rings and bangles, and layering necklaces and pendants. But what about our ears? Earring stacking is a trend that keeps going and giving. If you have multiple piercings, then you are already on to this trend. Not into piercings? No worries. That’s where the ear cuff comes into play! Whether you are new to this trend or an earring stacking veteran, let’s scope out some ways to create, elevate or update your earscape.

MIXING YOUR METALS

1. A BALANCED MIX

If you have a few piercings, then let’s take advantage of them and mix things up. Mini hoops plus studs paired with ear cuffs equals an interesting and eclectic mix. The key to this mix is proportion — all of the pieces are relatively small and relate to each other in terms of shape and form. The circular shapes of The Hoop Earrings Mini / Silver and our Double Moon Ear Cuffs Silver complement the ball shape of our Silver Moon Earrings Large.

2. THE MAXIMALIST’S STACK

A word of caution — if you want a light and easy stack, then skip this approach. Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, let’s talk about the Maximalist’s Stack. This is one where there are no holds barred. We leave no earring on the table. Where there is space on the lobe, we add another cuff. The Maximalist’s Stack does take proportion into consideration, though. Moreover, we prefer a monotone approach when going for broke on an earlobe. The pieces that comprise the stack pictured above are crafted from solid 22 karat gold and includes the Capture Ear Cuff Polished, the Lunar Cuff Polished, the Double Moon Cuff Polished, and our Cage Stud Earrings Polished.

3. THE MINIMALIST’S STACK

We recognize the irony in talking about the Minimalist’s Stack as a true minimalist is more likely to wear just one item of jewelry. Period. Assuming for the sake of style that there are some minimalists who enjoy a good earring stack, we like the spirit of the image above. If you have helix piercings, consider using tiny 22 karat gold hoops such as our Hug Me Huggie Earrings Polished. Otherwise, solid gold ear cuffs such as our Clean Cut Ear Cuff Polished or our Double Moon Ear Cuff Polished will work well. To complete the stack, add one or two pairs of small stud earrings on the ear lobe — we like our 22 karat gold Tack Stud Earrings, Barrel Stud Earrings, Double Cone Stud Earrings and Hexagon Diamond Stud Earrings for this position.

4. THE NEWBIE STACK

If you are new to earring and ear cuff stacking, the best approach is to take it slow and start with silver. Why silver? It’s a lot less expensive than gold and allows you to test your tolerance for stacking without making a big investment. In this case, consider starting with two or three simple Clean Cut Ear Cuffs Silver. Another approach is to go with a larger cuff such as our Lunar Ear Cuff Silver and pair it with stud earrings such as our Double Cone Stud Earrings Silver or our Silver Moon Earrings Small. If you like the look and want to add more, then mix your metals by adding one or two solid 22 karat gold ear cuffs to your silver mix.

5. THE HOOP MIX

Hoops are always in style; however, one way to take your hoop styles up a notch is to add a stack of smaller pieces above the hoop. Think ear cuffs or, if you’ve got helix piercings, small studs. We like ear cuffs for this role because no additional piercings are required! This is also a stack that accommodates multiple metals with ease: Silver Hoops and gold ear cuffs or vice versa. Here, we show The Hoop Earrings XL paired with two of our Open Hex Ear Cuffs — all handcrafted from solid 22 karat gold.

6. HOOP DOMINANCE

On a scale of 1 to 10, how daring are you? Be honest because this approach most certainly requires a score between 8 and 10! If you love a jewelry adventure then let’s proceed. This look is about multiple sizes of one earring style — the Hoop. And it requires multiple piercings. If you’ve checked both boxes, then let’s go! This look is less about proportion (because we tossed the safe and balanced stuff out the window at the beginning of this paragraph, remember?) and more about creativity and fearlessness. In terms of choice of metals, we recommend our Silver Hoops, which come in seven sizes from XL to micro. Once you’ve nailed this hoop stack, you can always mix in a couple of 22 karat gold hoops or huggie earrings to take your sartorial skills to an elite (but extra luxe) level!
