3 approaches to styling jewelry like the French

“I am the ultimate jewelry lover, and an authority on all things style and jewelry.”

During my years as fashion editor and wardrobe stylist for fashion bibles such as Vogue, InStyle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Marie Claire, much has been written about the “French Girl” approach to fashion, especially compared to American style. As a jewelry lover and curator, I focused on how the French styled their accessories — especially their baubles. Moving to Paris for a while allowed me to experience firsthand the “French Girl” effect on fashion and jewelry styling. Since I could talk and write about this topic all day (and none of us have all day), I focused on 3 of my favorite looks in order to illustrate how a typical Parisian woman might mix and match Auvere jewelry to accentuate her own personal style.

THE EVERYDAY BOHEMIAN

The Look: Sofia Sanchez de Betak

Sofia Sanchez de Betak, better known as “Chufy,” was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina but calls both Paris and Mallorca home. Her namesake label of beautiful, printed frocks is the epitome of boho-chic. Creating your own bohemian flair begins and ends with the details. Start by choosing the piece that you want to highlight, whether it be your go-to vintage Levi’s, or your oversized shearling parka for those chillier days ahead. Have fun with mixing textures and remember that layering is both practical and chic. Go for distressed pieces like artfully frayed denim, worn in flannels, and remember to try mixing prints for a look that’s entirely your own. Add a pair of knee-high boots in a supple chestnut shade and tuck your trousers inside them. If you worry this style may leave you feeling sloppy or undone, there are ways to dress up your bohemian look. Opting for sleek high karat Auvere gold jewelry can help you achieve a more polished twist.

The Jewelry Pairing

There are no rules when it comes to shopping for fine gold and silver jewelry to help you take your bohemian style up a notch. That said, layering is always a good idea and mixing metals and your gold finishes are details to consider. Auvere’s Hexagon Ruby Stack Ring, Xanthe 24K Ring Hammered and Serpentine Ring Single Twist are all great options for both stacking and adding texture. You can wear them all on one finger or spread them out on both hands. Rings are a great place to help you achieve a bohemian look because they won’t get obstructed by oversized bell sleeves and heavy layered pieces as the cold months settle in. The Hexagon and Serpentine rings are both offered in sizes 5-9 while the Xanthe ring is offered in sizes 5 through 12 so you can be sure to find the perfect fit. Bracelets can prove to be tricky as they’ll get lost under your layers and may cause your sleeves to bunch in all the wrong places. Another category we love here are earrings. The beauty of an ear cuff is that they require no piercing but give the illusion of a piercing. Auvere’s 22K Hex Ear Cuff is the perfect ear bauble as it comes in sizes small, medium, and large so you can find the perfect snugness for your ear to ensure a close fit without it falling off or being uncomfortable. The 4 Leaf Clover 22K satin earrings are both chic and add some whimsy to your look. Who doesn’t love a good luck charm to boot? There’s something very eclectic about layering necklaces to achieve your go-to bohemian look as well. Opt for Auvere’s Light Double Link 22K Necklace which comes in varying lengths including 18”, 20” and 24”. The small solid Maze 22K Pendant Necklace is also a fun piece to put on and never take off. It comes in both 18” and 24” options.

THE CLASSIC MINIMALIST

The Look: Salomé Mory

Salomé Mory is a model and art director based in Paris. Her style is elegant and minimalist, which is pretty easy to achieve. The key to accomplishing this look is to choose timeless silhouettes, beautiful materials and expert tailoring. Subtle details carry a lot of weight when it comes to minimal dressing. Opt for crew neck t-shirts or v- neck sweaters in solid colors, straight or wide leg trousers and sleek shoulder bags that fit all your essentials. Make sure your pants hit your shoes at the right length. High waisted trousers look great with both a heel and a flat loafer. That being said, you want to pair your minimal look with a shoe that you can walk in. The ease of minimal dressing will look off balance if you can’t walk in your heels. If you tend to be more of a maximalist, minimal dressing may feel boring at first glance. However, you can still make a statement with minimal dressing by choosing the right pieces of jewelry!

The Jewelry Pairing

When shopping for jewelry to accompany your minimal style, you want to begin with pieces that have little to no embellishments. A minimalist look is all about modern and graphic shapes, clean lines, sculptural designs, and unexpected finishes. Look for smooth, glossy, and satin gold finishes, as well as textured pieces. Interesting chain-links and solid gold bead detailing are a great way to add some dimension to your look. Auvere’s 22 karat gold Triple Barrel Ring Polished, Golden Moon Ring Satin, and its 24 karat gold Golden Apex 24K Ring Satin all pack a serious punch. The Triple Barrel Ring comes in sizes 5-12 which is super exciting because you can wear just one, or several on all 10 fingers and still pull off a look that hovers nicely between maximalism and minimalism. The sculptural design of Auvere’s 22 karat gold Perigee Bracelet is a work of art for your wrist that you didn’t know you needed. You can wear this piece to a board meeting, a cocktail party, or even to a black-tie gala. Stack it with the Pavo Bracelet Satin to emphasize the design of the Perigee Bracelet. The Pavo bracelet is subtle enough to wear everyday with your watch and never take off. The Pavo Necklace Polished, handcrafted from 22 karat gold, is also a great piece to wear everyday while running around town from meeting to meeting. This necklace comes in a 22” adjustable size that may be worn at 18” or 20” for those days your neckline calls for some adjusting. Nothing says minimalist chic like an elegant hoop earring. A pair of classic hoop earrings that you can wear anywhere from your Pilates class to your Cycladic honeymoon getaway is worth every penny — especially when they are crafted from hypoallergenic high karat gold. The Hoop Earrings Micro, which comes in both 22 karat gold and sterling silver, are sold in singles and pairs. When it comes to getting your money’s worth in high karat gold jewelry, a hoop earring is a splurge that will keep on giving for decades to come. We couldn’t love this earring more and if you’re in the market for hoop earrings but want something larger, Auvere has many from which to choose.

The Look: Elle Delphine

Ellie Delphine is the content creator and stylist behind Slip Into Style. Originally from Martinique, Ellie currently resides in Paris. If you’re looking for your next date night look or pondering an outfit to wear for your next night out dancing with your girlfriends, a great place to begin is to think about what aspect of your body you want to accentuate. When it comes to glamorous or sexy looks, cutouts, body-con silhouettes, and sheer detailing remain some of the biggest trends both on and off the runways this season. Look for pieces with a few sequins or crystals for sparkle, or lace detailing and slinky silks in order to reinvent your evening attire. Whether you prefer a looser-fitting slip dress, a hip hugging patent mini skirt, or a sheer body suit, dressing up your sexy evening look with high karat gold jewelry by Auvere is just as important as the shoes that you choose to complete your look.

The Jewelry Pairing

Going-out jewelry doesn’t have to be fully encrusted in pave diamonds or rubies. Solid gold pieces, shiny gold finishes, graphic shapes that hug your fingers, earlobes, or décolleté, can look just as sexy as a giant seven carat diamond necklace. Auvere’s Stalactite Diamond Earrings from its Naturaliste collection will pull out your fierce, confident, inner beauty. If diamonds aren’t your thing, consider, the Arthropod Earrings Polished provide an unusual and ultra-cool way to elevate your sexy slip dress and chunky platform shoes. If you’re on the hunt for the perfect necklace to accentuate your square neckline, Auvere’s 22 karat gold Valo-L Necklace from the Sculptura collection is both dramatic and elegant. If you are planning to wear a sleeveless look and want to accentuate your toned arms, opt for Auvere’s dramatic Tall Maze Cuff handcrafted from solid 22 karat gold. This one is from Auvere’s Arignote collection. Named after one of the earliest known female philosophers and mathematicians, Arignote, this wrist adornment’s graphic lines and shiny finish will add a subtle ounce of sexy to your ensemble. What’s more glamorous than a glossy red nail and gold rings? The Multifacet Ring Satin, the Cut Out Diamond Ring, and XOXO 22K Diamond Band are the perfect pairing for your fresh manicure.
