AU NATUREL

#BTS Memo, Edition No. 2

Hi everyone. This is Gina, co-founder of, and designer for, Auvere. In our second #BTS Memo, I'd like to share some of the inspiration behind our Naturaliste collection. The name reveals the source of ideas that fueled this collection — the natural world. Starting in the summer of 2020, Steven and I made several trips to upstate New York, and later on, the Caribbean, to immerse ourselves in nature. We rented houses surrounded by trees or near beaches, and spent our days hiking, biking, and swimming. These trips provided much needed respite during stressful times. I created the Naturaliste collection as a way of memorializing these experiences and sharing them with you.

Stalactites and stalagmites are icicle shaped formations that are formed by redeposited minerals built up over time as a result of countless water drops. If the water that drops to the floor of the cave still has some dissolved calcite in it, it can deposit more dissolved calcite there, forming a stalagmite. If you’ve ever seen these gigantic formations, you will not likely forget them. I was most fascinated by their angular shapes. In gold and diamonds, these shapes are divine. Our Stalactite Diamond Bracelet is joined by our ultra-cool Stalactite Diamond Earrings — both crafted from solid 22 karat gold and tipped with pave set natural diamonds.

I’ve been fascinated by praying mantes since I was a kid. They are, at once, elegant and crazy looking. They come in all sorts of colors, often matching the hues of the flowers from which they feed. There’s no way to make a ring look exactly like the way a praying mantis holds its limbs, as if in prayer. So I tried to achieve the “vibe” of this strange but intriguing creature. I designed this ring in singles too — check out our Praying Mantis Diamond Ring Narrow, Praying Mantis Ring Narrow / Satin and Praying Mantis Ring Narrow / Polished.

Okay. I know that this inspiration may freak you out. But hear me out. Snakes and serpents are frightening for obvious reasons. But for other reasons that are more nuanced, they are also beautiful, mysterious and a critical member of the earth’s ecology. I admire their beauty and take inspiration from their shapes and moves, albeit from afar — the result being our Serpentine Ring Single Twist and the Serpentine Ring Double Twist, both handcrafted from solid 22 karat gold. Hey — I am not the only one who looks to these creatures for design inspo. For centuries (going back to ancient times), jewelry makers have taken inspiration from these often misunderstood creatures!

I love the elongated shape of certain grasses, seeds and pods. And golden color of grass in the late summer and early fall is glorious. Our Golden Pod Necklace is also available in a subtle brushed satin finish.

That's all for now!
