HOW TO WEAR IT: PINKY LOVE

Embrace the Forgotten Digit

When it comes to dressing up our fingers with lust-worthy rings, most of us focus our attention on the well known and much celebrated “ring finger.” Whether by habit or the result of some strange jewelry ritual, we seem to forget that we have four other fingers to work with. While some may adorn their thumb or pointer finger with a touch of gold, the pinky finger is usually an afterthought.

“My obsession for jewelry runs so deep, I even created my own line, which was carried at Nordstrom across the nation. Give me a choice, and I’ll hands down pick an eye-catching piece of heirloom jewelry any day as it lasts forever. My preference? Yellow gold always!”

As a long-time jewelry and style editor (I’ve worked in the fashion business for over 15 years), I am on something of a mission to shift some solid gold attention to our little fingers. Scroll down for a few suggestions on how to embrace the forgotten digit with a few of Auvere’s solid gold rings.

LAYER THEM UP

When it comes to layering and stacking, my advice is simple. Don’t hold back! Feel free to layer up your rings horizontally and vertically — never forgetting the pinky finger. For maximum comfort and impact, opt for thinner bands and stack no more than three rings unless they are ultra thin. Stick to bands that fit closely together in order to avoid gaps between rings. The layered or stacked look is an easy way to create unexpected drama with your little finger that people are sure to notice and admire.

Auvere offers several thin rings and bands that stack and layer well. Consider these options in solid 22 karat gold: Praying Mantis Diamond Ring Narrow; Praying Mantis Polished Ring Narrow; Praying Mantis Satin Ring Narrow; Pyramid Ring Narrow; Motorcycle Band Narrow; Octavia Stack Ring Polished; Octavia Stack Ring Satin; Slice Ring Polished; and Slice Ring Satin.

MIX METALS, FINISHES AND GEMSTONES

A lot of people shy away from mixing metals, finishes and gemstones believing the mix to be against the rules. Forget those rules! Wearing jewelry is about self-expression — antiquated ideas about styling jewelry no longer apply. For a modern approach to wearing jewelry, consider incorporating one or more of these three approaches. (1) Pair different metals together. Wearing a white gold or platinum wedding band, a stainless steel watch or silver jewelry should not prevent you from wearing yellow gold. (2) Pile on the gems. Diamonds, rubies, turquoise and sapphires look smashing when layered together — especially on the little digit. (3) Mix your finishes. The contrast between an artisanal finished such as hammered gold and the smooth minimalist finish of polished gold is quite spectacular, so wear them together. Ultimately, my approach to jewelry is this: if it puts a smile on your face, then go for it. And let your little finger in on some of the ring action too.

My list of Auvere rings to consider when mixing and matching and decorating your pinky are: Praying Mantis Diamond Ring Wide; Byzantium 24K Ring Rubies; Byzantium 24K Ring Satin; Xanthe 24K Ring Hammered; Golden Apex 24K Ring Hammered; Cage Cocktail Ring Ruby; Diamond Bridge Ring Tall; and Diamond Bridge Ring Short.

MAKE A STATEMENT

Don’t be fooled by its size. You can make a very loud statement with your smallest finger. As long as the fit is nice and snug, you can be as bold as you want. For this look, we like a thicker band with an element of design or a thinner band with an eye-catching topper. Either way, anything goes!

Some of my favorite pinky statement-making Auvere rings include: Golden Moon Ring Polished; Golden Moon Ring Satin; Big Heart Ring; Star Power Ring; Maze Star Ring; Star Bright Ring; Spike Ring; and XOXO Band.

KEEP IT SIMPLE

If you are not about being big and bold when it comes to your rings, don’t worry! Even a minimalist or delicate gold band makes an elegant statement — especially on your pinky finger. Dainty rings lend a graceful air to your hands and create a sense of understated femininity. A polished band adds an instantaneous touch of glam, while a satin version is more muted and subtle. Both options being foolproof.

My recommendations for keeping it simple are: Clean Cut Stack Ring Polished; Clean Cut Stack Ring Satin; Peace Sign Ring; Capture Ring; Heartbeat Ring; Stud Band Polished; Stud Band Satin; Small V Neck Ring Polished; and Large V Neck Ring Satin.
